Councillor James O’Sullivan has welcomed that the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government has made funding available to voluntary and community groups in Wicklow for the maintenance of tourist and scenic areas of the county.
Councillor O’Sullivan, who is a member of the local Tourism Committee said, “The summer is a very active time in Greystones with many people from outside the town coming to visit on day-trips via the DART. With this in mind, I’m delighted the Department have allocated additional funding for Wicklow County Council to distribute to local community groups to assist with the tourism drive in Greystones.”
“I know this will be of help to many local community groups who have a keen interest in maintaining scenic areas and tourist locations around the town. Funding is being made available to them to assist the Council in cleaning key tourist destinations, such as beaches.”
Councillor O’Sullivan continued, “Once the community groups provide a detailed outline and estimated cost of their proposed work at particular locations in the county during the summer months, a small amount of financial assistance will be allocated.”
“The deadline for applications is Friday, 15th June at 12 noon. I’m very pleased this funding is being made available and I’d encourage any community group interested to contact me and I will assist during the application stage”, concluded Councillor O’Sullivan.
