At the October meeting of Greystones Town Council, I rejected claims that Councillors should be issued with permits for free parking in the Town.
At the meeting I said, “In Principle I cannot accept a Parking Permit which would provide me with free parking in the Town. While it is up to the majority of the members of this Council to decide whether or not to pass this motion, I will not be accepting a Parking Permit even if they are made available to Councillors.”
“I believe it is unacceptable that Councillors could park for free in the town while others are forced to pay. At a time when trust in politicians is at an all time low, I believe we must lead by example. As a newly elected, young and enthusiastic Public Representative, I am fighting to change how politics operates in this country. It would be unfair to all the people of Greystones for me to accept this free parking permit and therefore I will not support this proposal.”
